All About the Basics

Basics are a very important part of any great wardrobe. You could have a killer selection of sequin jackets and leopard print pants, but without a good pair of nude heels or a muted top to pair with it, you could miss the mark. Creating a perfect outfit (or a perfect wardrobe) is all about balance.

I love how Old Navy incorporates basics and current trends at price points everyone can fall in love with. I found this plaid wool-blend bomber jacket under the Pop Preppy section online and I can't tell you how much I love it. The inside is lined with this soft faux fur material that is nice on cooler days.

I immediately fell in love with this white boyfriend-fit flannel top not only for it's comfort, but because it can replace your basic crisp white button down that otherwise screams Corporate America. The windowpane stripes are dark grey so you don't have to worry about pairing it with black or navy blue - so it really can go with anything. Imagine how cute it would be paired with a floral skirt or patterned pants! The top is also over-sized so it's just the right length to pair with leggings and over-the-knee boots - or you can undo a few buttons and tie it up as I've done in a few photos!

And my adorable red trapeze handbag was a steal at under $40! It perfectly pulls out the red in my plaid bomber jacket so I knew I had to have it. Lastly, for all you mama-to-be's out there, I'm wearing Old Navy's full-panel maternity skinny jeans and they are the best pair of maternity jeans I've found yet. (I went down 2 full sizes.) I love how they stay snug on my legs without stretching out throughout the day and the top part is still nice and roomy for my growing bump.

FYI - All of the clothes I'm wearing above and my purse are all 40% off with the code EXTRAGIFT through December 12th!
