A Fresh Start

Having my husband go to bed at 8 PM on New Year's Eve with the flu, me catching it three days later and subsequently staying in bed for four days straight was not my idea of a fresh start in 2015. But hey, you've got to roll with the punches and not let your view of how it should be ruin your outlook on how life unfolds. I think this funny little debacle was a higher power saying, "Jen, stop trying to plan everything out. Just go with the flow." So I think this carefree point of view will be my mantra for 2015. Given, I'm a Type A/Creative Type soul divided, plus I have a baby, nurse, run a blog, work full-time as a writer, keep a house clean, make baby food, try to work out, keep up with the Bachelor (hellooo Farmer Chris), stay on top of fashion trends, and a million other things, that I'm still going to have to plan things out. I just won't get so wrapped up in my plans. And if plans fall through, I'll be okay.

So with all of that out of the way, I also want to touch on what you'll see different on What Would Jen Wear this year. As a short introduction on this change: I've noticed this crazy paradigm shift when it comes to fashion blogs and social media. You may have noticed it too. I have to preface this statement by saying that I truly love and support the blogger community and I don't mean any of this in a bad way. But, if I'm going to be honest here, I've really noticed that so many bloggers are consistently wearing the exact same outfits. As a blogger, doesn't that ruin your credibility for being able to style your own outfits? And doesn't it further ruin your credibility to give fashion advice if you're just recreating a look you've seen on someone else? I don't know. Maybe it's just me. I've always been the kind of girl that loves to do her own thing, wear her own clothes, and create her own style that it's hard for me to see the same thing over and over again. It's not at all creative nor is it conducive to helping people curate their own personal style. When I see an outfit on repeat on Instagram, it makes me want to turn the other way and run. Run as far and as fast as I can until I realize how out of shape I am.

Last year I really threw myself into blogging and with that came meeting other bloggers, stumbling upon new blogs and inevitably partaking in blogger comparison. There were times that I would fall in love with another girls blog and think "I should really make my blog like this" or "I should do more outfits like that" and it's just turns into a comparison snowball which leads to doubt and unhappiness. In blogging, and in life, you just can't leave any room for comparison. And you definitely can't compare your beginning to someone else's middle. If anything, harness those feelings and use them as motivation to help you achieve your goals. I'm glad I learned my lesson.

With that said (I've almost made my point here, I promise) I'm vowing to stay true to my own style in 2015. My bright, pattern-mixing, color-loving style that makes me different from everyone else. I may get weird looks in public (I'm used to it) and my outfits may not appeal to everyone, but you know what, I'm okay with that. The moment I start caring about what other people think is the moment I stop being myself and that's not what this is about. I also think it's important as a creative individual, as a blogger and as a regular fashion-loving girl to always look for inspiration. To constantly be inspired. And then take that inspiration and spin it into something your soul jives with. Thus creating a foundation for true personal style. Which is what I want to help YOU do.

So, if you're picking up what I'm putting down, then we get each other and I think you'll like what I have in store this year. And I'm making you a promise that this space [What Would Jen Wear] will always be different. It will be inspiring. It will encourage new thoughts and ideas. It will introduce you to new styles, new designers, new brands and new ways to wear trends. It will also become a better glimpse into my personal life, because I am a lot more than a fashion-obsessed twenty-something, and I'm excited for you to get to know me on other levels. And I hope I get to know you too. I want to be your new best friend, your stylist, your cheerleader, and your "good" influence when it comes to shopping sales. I don't take being a fashion blogger lightly. I do this because it's my passion and because I honestly want to help inspire people when it comes to getting dressed every day. I'm not doing this to push specific products or make sales. I'm just a girl from Oklahoma who seriously loves fashion.

See you tomorrow with a new outfit post!
