Skirts Need Layers Too

Because I've been a little MIA lately, I thought I would check in with a quick outfit post via iPhone photos. My family and I recently relocated from Dallas to Oklahoma City to be closer to family and in the midst of our move we had two weddings to attend - one in Colorado and one in Minnesota. And aside from just being extremely busy, I'm having the best time being a mommy to Brady. When I have free time - free time I would normally use to write blog posts and take photos - all I want to do is spend it with Brady. Balancing a full-time job, being the best mommy I can be and trying to grow my presence as a fashion blogger can be a little tough sometimes. But, this is my passion and like I said back on New Years Day, I'm holding on tight to my dreams. So for those of you that are reading this and who follow me on social media, I just want to say thank you for following along! I love doing this and I hope you love the outfits I put together and the advice I share!

Personal stuff aside, winter weather is finally here! I love winter because that means you can layer, layer, layer! One unique layering combination that you don't see too often is laying over skirts. Sure, you can tuck a shirt into a skirt and wear a sweater or cardigan over that. That totally counts. But I'm talking about letting it all hang out (in a good way). Here I've layered an untucked silk oxford over a short whimsical skirt and layered a long, soft sweater on top. Then, I added a pair of great mini polka-dot tights and some amazing - and amazingly priced - over-the-knee boots! To accessorize, I added a long necklace to compliment and help elongate the look. (Tip: Wearing a short, chunky necklace with this look would cut it off - making everything look a little dis-proportioned.)

The other great thing about this style is it allows you to re-purpose your spring and summer skirts for the winter!
