I knew this spring line was going to absolutely break me.
I was going through my March Style Guide last night and was literally dog-ear-ing every page. I didn't know how I was going to keep track of everything I wanted, and then it dawned on me - I'll just write a blog post and share my picks with my fabulous readers!
The great thing about all of these pieces is - they are timeless! - in my book at least. For someone who goes overboard when purchasing pink apparel and accessories, I have to say, I am in love with these fresh shades of pink. The line incorporates several of them, from a soft blush hue all the way to an in-your-face neon pink (my favorite). I also LOVE the wide range of patterns. This is the perfect line to pull from if you tend to dress a little safer or monotone and are wanting to get a little more daring with your wardrobe. The secret to sporting crazy colors and patterns is to take them in doses.
Here are a few tips on incorporating prints & colors:
If you're not sure what to mix a print with, like the Brocade Café capris pictured above, keep it absolutely simple - seriously - just throw on a grey tee and neutral shoes. You'll look like you aren't even trying, which speaks volumes in the fashion world. And if you want to go a step further, pick out a pair of shoes that pull from the colors in the pants, like gold flats or sea-foam pumps.
Try keeping an outfit monochromatic - my favorite right now is all-white, or shades of white and beige. Then throw on some crazy, bright, colorful, or patterned shoes. Like the Darby Loafer in hot pink pictured above. It will add just the right amount of style flair to your outfit. And you'll get a lot of compliments!
Invest in a tweed jacket, now. It will be your favorite purchase this year, I promise. My favorite is the Pink Tweed Jacket pictured above. The tweed adds a great texture to your outfit which instantly makes it stand out. I like to pair it with basic or vintage tees and simple skinny jeans. This jacket will also be perfect to wear with shorts while the weather is transitioning from spring to summer.
When mixing prints, choose a color present in both pieces. Take the Pixelated Houndstooth Skirt pictured above, for example. If you're unsure about what print to mix with it, find one with a similar color, like this Pink Stripe Popover.
When you look at the collection as a whole, the J.Crew 2013 Spring/Summer line possesses an amazing level of unexpectedness, which is what I love the most about the brand and their ingenious fashion directors. In my opinion, the best outfit is one that doesn't look like it initially goes together, but in the end, it just does.
