Fall Color Trend: Marigold

Tis the season for OTK boots, oversized sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything! It's finally Fall and my wardrobe and I couldn't be happier. Each year I get so excited to dive into Fall trends, thinking they are the best I've seen yet, but then they just continue to get better and better. Without a doubt, Fall fashion is and always will be my favorite season of dressing. If you're a little more timid when it comes to new trends, try experimenting with new colors first.

I recently fell in love with this marigold boyfriend sweater I found at The Tilted Tulip - a new boutique in Oklahoma City. Marigold is definitely having a moment... or at least it's starting to. I did a little more research on the color itself and found that it just showed up on runways earlier this year - and that we'll be seeing a lot more of it in 2017. So I think marigold will definitely be a major trend in the coming years. But aside from it just being trendy, it really is a beautiful color to wear.

As I continued to shop, with my marigold sweater in hand, I came across this navy blue top with marigold florals! I know. It was absolutely meant to be. I never like to be too matchy-matchy but I live for outfits where different parts play off of each other. So these two pieces were my equivalent of an outfit dream. And as if it couldn't get any better, I found two more perfect outfits on the same shopping trip. Don't you love when that happens? Ah, that was a good day.

If you are local to Oklahoma City, you've got to stop by The Tilted Tulip. The owners, Kristen and Amanda, are so much fun. They both have completely different styles which make their merchandise selection diverse and on point. I had such a great time meeting + shopping with them. (If you aren't local, you can place an order over the phone! They said they are more than happy to FedEx!)

J.Crew Fall 2016

J.Crew introduced their fall line in stores less than a month ago, and while they did give us a preview of some items from their Collection at NYFW roughly seven months ago, I still can't help but fall in love all over again. But how can you not when you're presented with a flamingo pink suit, absolutely incredible prints (thanks to a killer collaboration with Drake's), and the holy grail: J.Crew sequins!

If you've read my blog for a while now, you know how much I adore all things J.Crew, and this type of blog post is something you've come to expect from me. So, in true fashion, I've pulled the best pieces from the fall 2016 lineup that I think deserve to be in your our closets.

Trend alert: J.Crew is all aboard the bandana train and I may as well be behind the wheel. I am all about this trend because I love how much character and dimension it adds to an outfit - and it really requires no effort at all. The bandanas I purchased are in my recap above (and linked below) but J.Crew has much more to offer in that arena: see them all here!

P.S. Do you guys remember this pink faux fur coat that debuted at NYFW earlier this year?

Well it goes on sale in a few weeks! It's sure to sell out fast so I hope to be one of the first in line to purchase. If you'd like me to send you a personal email when the jacket is released, comment with your email and I will be more than happy to let you know the moment it's available.

Meet Parker

As we approach Parker's 4-month birthday, I thought I would share some of her newborn photos with you and chat about her birth story. This little girl has changed my life in ways I never could've imagined. I'm so excited to watch her grow into a strong, smart, compassionate and fashionable little girl, and I am so honored that I was chosen to show her the way.

Having two babies has been very fulfilling, but if I'm going to be honest, the last four months have been a whirlwind. As a family, we've never been busier, our house has never been messier and our bank accounts have never been lower. But I love the chaos. I love every single second. I've learned to not worry about piles of laundry and a sink full of dishes because I know these days are fleeting and I want to soak up every moment.

Welcoming Parker

Her birth story is an exciting one. I left work early the day before to go to my 37-week appointment. During the checkup, my doctor said "yeah... there's no way you're making it to your due date. This baby could come anytime." That was a shock to Scott and I both, but we were so excited! We left the hospital so giddy. Once I got home, I went to town on the entire house. I was cleaning the kitchen, organizing Parker's clothes, triple checking my hospital bag, etc. - until suddenly, I started having contractions. Before this point, I'd have a handful of strong contractions at night that would last about 20 minutes, but that was it. In the days I would be fine. So I took it easy but continued to get things in order around the house. When I went to the bed, the contractions were getting a little stronger and more frequent but I didn't really think anything of it. Plus I was just so tired.

Throughout that night I would wake up here and there because I'd have a strong contraction, but I was half asleep so I didn't think much of it. Finally, at about 5:00am, I thought to myself "maybe I should keep track of how far apart these are." So I opened up my notepad on my phone and started counting each contraction. After about 15 minutes, I realized my contractions were 4 minutes apart. I WAS DEFINITELY IN LABOR. I called my dad, who answered after half of a ring, and he and my mom came over literally five minutes later. Apparently they had a feeling it was going to happen soon so they already had their stuff ready to come over.

After getting out of bed, I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror trying to figure out how I could make myself presentable for photos with our little baby girl. I tried to convince Scott that I needed to shower before we left so I could curl my hair - but this argument was interrupted by a huge contraction that had me immediately curling over my countertop. "Okay fine you win," I yelled at him. We gave my parents Brady's baby monitor, headed straight to the car and were on the road at exactly 6:00am.

We walked into the waiting room at 6:15 and I calmly walked up to the check-in counter and said "hi, I think I'm in labor." I don't think the lady took me very seriously because she had no sense of urgency. She asked if I could sign a bunch of papers and I obliged, then took a seat. After about 10 minutes of having contractions in a waiting room full of half-awake people staring at me (and probably my terrible bedhead situation), someone came out to get me. They made me pee in a cup first, which took much longer than usual because I had to stop 3 times to deal with contractions. After that, they took me to another room to see how far I was dilated. At this point I was calmly telling the nurse "It feels like the baby is coming out right now." She was clearly not buying into my insistence and probably thought I was just being a wuss.

Then, as she's checking my situation, she immediately jumps back and says "Oh my god. You're dilated to a 9! We need to get you to a room stat!" She buzzed some intercom and ran out of the room. I looked over at Scott with a mixture of "I told you so, nurse" and "holy crap this is happening like now." Two nurses then rushed in the room and helped me stand up and walk just across the hall to a room with even more nurses. It was crazy. Sheets were flowing in the air, carts were being pushed into and out of the room, gloves were being put on, Parker's newborn area was getting prepped, and Scott was squeezing my hand while looking a bit stressed out. It was definitely a visual I'll never forget.

My legs went into stirrups and my doctor rushed into the room to greet me with wet hair and sleep in her eyes. They asked if I wanted an epidural and I said "ha! You bet I do!" They told me the anesthesiologist didn't get there until 7:00am but they would call her in right away. I panicked for a minute but so much else was going on with getting me prepped, and also the strong contractions, that it seemed like she was walking it before I knew it. About two minutes after my epidural kicked in, they saw Parker's head and let me know it was time to push.

I looked at Scott again and said "I can't believe we're about to meet her!" I could tell he was worried but he kept a sweet encouraging smile on his face the entire time. I pushed a total of 5 times and she was out at 7:48am! They immediately handed her to me and I fell in love all over again. She looked right at me as they cut the cord and I just stared at her with a great big smile until the nurses and Scott took her over to get weighed, measured and cleaned off. She came right back to me and we snuggled until it was time to move the recovery room. From that moment until now, I've just been so impressed by her. She is the best baby, just like her brother, and I feel infinitely blessed to call them mine.

The One Sale You Can't Miss

This sale totally caught me by surprise this morning. And actually, it doesn't go live to the public until tomorrow morning (promotion/email-wise) so from now until midnight, you have free reign on what they have in stock. And believe me when I say that things go fast. So if you see something you have to have, get it!

I'm not ashamed to admit that I did some major shopping on my lunch break today because this is the only time you can score some major brands at 25% off with no spending minimum! You read that right - everything is 25% off! Of course, there are a few brand exclusions (including Tory Burch) but that usually comes with the territory. I'm not sure when the sale will end yet since it hasn't been announced, but these things usually last 3-5 days and the further we get into the sale, the smaller the available stock is.

I made a little collage with all of my picks and a handful of products I swear by - like my favorite sunglasses, nursing bras and shorts! If you have any questions for me regarding fit, etc. please don't hesitate to comment below, on social media (@jenkubes) or via email: jenniferkubes@gmail.com!

Everything above is linked below from left to right and top to bottom:

Cactus Cardigan

The bump was out in full force in Deep Ellum last weekend and I had a serious case of deja vu. Scott and I have spent many days and nights roaming around Deep Ellum - from getting matching tattoos on our 2nd anniversary and seeing who could eat more at our favorite BBQ spot, to visiting word-of-mouth-only hidden bars and taking endless amounts of blog photos every weekend. It's seriously one of my favorite parts of Dallas and it just continues to grow. Not to mention there are so many new backdrops that I wish had been there two years ago! That's blogger gold, I tell you.

Dallas is also home to one of my favorite boutiques over in Preston Center, Riff Raff, which just so happens to be where my cardigan is from above. If you live in Dallas and haven't been to their store - go! It's adorable and I used to live less than a mile away from it.

Cardigans and kimonos have always been my thing, but I tend to reach for them a lot more when I'm pregnant. There's nothing I love more than pairing a snug fitting top (to accentuate the bump) with a fun cardigan. Aside from covering up trouble areas, cardigans and kimonos easily transform outfits from drab to fab. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist saying that. But really, think about how much a colorful kimono would enhance a white top and jeans. Anyway, when I saw this Show Me Your Mumu cactus cardigan online, I knew I had to have it and apparently so did a lot of other people because the sweater sold out in less than an hour!

Because I'm frequently purchasing things from Riff Raff, I know that they often sell out of things quickly, but rest assured that they are always restocking whatever they can. So as a word to the wise: if you ever see anything you like that's not on the website anymore, shoot them an email at hello@shopriffraff.com and let them know you're interested - or sign up for notifications under that specific product (if it's still online) and you'll get an email when your size comes back in stock! Also, check back frequently to see when they've updated their inventory - they do almost every day!

Floral Tunic + Giveaway

Last weekend my husband and I took a day trip down to Dallas to attend a gender reveal for some of our close friends. Because it was going to be a quick trip, we decided to get up super early and make a day out of it. It's been a year and half since we moved to Oklahoma from Dallas and I cannot believe how much has changed. There are so many new restaurants, apartment complexes and skyscrapers downtown - it's unreal. It really makes me miss living there - not that I really ever stopped missing it. Don't get me wrong, being in Oklahoma and living a slower-paced life has a lot of perks, especially with little ones, but my personality and lifestyle thrives in bigger cities. Plus, I'm a really great aggressive Texas driver and fit in so well on the freeways.

We got on the road at 6:30am and made it to Dallas by 10:00 (because, Starbucks pitstops) which was right when a new brunch spot opened that I was dying to try. Mercat Bistro. It's located in between downtown and uptown in the Harwood District - footsteps from our old apartment.

I'm a sucker for anything European-inspired and this place was exactly that. We started with a pastry basket and coffee: Scott got "Jet Fuel" (a 12-hour cold brew) and I got my usual decaf almond milk latte. Oh how I miss caffeine. For brunch I ordered the Spinach and Mushroom Quiche and Scott got the Cold Roasted Chicken sandwich. Both exquisite. After eating we stopped to snap a few photos of my outfit. Dallas people are so used to bloggers that no one paid us any mind taking photos in the middle of a stairway. I love that.

This PinkBlush Maternity tunic/dress has been my little saving grace over the past month. It really is hard to find fun, colorful maternity clothing these days, especially pieces that are affordable and can carry you through the end of pregnancy. When I'm 7-8-9 months pregnant, I really try to steer away from anything tight because it's just not comfortable, so dresses are always my go-to. When I buy maternity clothes, I try to make sure they will transition into my postpartum wardrobe effortlessly too. All I'll have to do with this dress is throw on a belt and some ankle boots and call it a day!

Taking the time to pamper yourself and buy yourself clothes that you feel good in is so important during pregnancy. You go through so much physically and emotionally that doing whatever you can to make yourself feel good is something I strongly believe in. You are growing a tiny human and while that is a miracle in and of itself, it's important to keep your confidence intact while doing it, because gaining 20-30-40 pounds is hard. If I need to explain any credit card bills to your husband/boyfriend this, let me know.

PinkBlush Maternity is a driving force in helping mama's look their best during pregnancy and they are by far the only place I've found that offers a wide range of adorable and trendy maternity clothes. Which is why I'm really excited to share that we have teamed up to offer another pretty mama a free $75 gift card! Here's how you can win:

1. Comment below with your due date or the due date of a friend you're hoping to win for.
2. Make sure you are following me on Instagram (@jenkubes) then find the photo on my feed from this post and tag three of your favorite fashionistas.

A winner will be chosen at random on Good Friday, March 25th!

Sunflower Top

Hello, friends! I apologize for my absence on the blog lately. With a very active toddler who gets all of my attention, a house that's almost done being built, a full-time job that I dedicate a lot of time and heart to, and a baby girl on the way... it's safe to say I've been exhausted 99% of the time. I hate that my blog comes last in the grand scheme of things, but it's something that I know I'll never give up on. I love it too much. One day I'll be on a regular blogging schedule... one day.

Oversized tops. Who doesn't love them? I have too many to count and they happen to come in very handy when you're expecting! My only rule when it comes to styling oversized tops is to keep your bottom half slim - whether it's by wearing tights, shorts or skinny jeans. You've got to have balance. A big top with big pants (think wide-leg trousers or boot cut jeans) would just add unnecessary weight on your frame.

I love this top in particular because it reminds me of spring (obviously) and I am so ready for warmer weather. Don't get me wrong, I love winter and drinking hot chocolate by a fire, but I think if it's going to be so freezing cold outside, there needs to be snow on the ground. If there's not snow or snow in the forecast, then it needs to warm up. At least the groundhog is predicting an early spring this year, right? As crazy as I feel for putting my trust in a small animal coming out of hibernation, I'm all about this prediction. Let's do this, mother nature.
